How to recognize a cockroach egg?

There are more than 4,600 types of cockroaches, but there are four constitute home pests. German and American cockroaches are the most common of the four species of cockroaches in Indonesia. Cockroaches carry diseases and are not good for your health.

Adult cockroaches will breed and lay eggs that look like capsules. These eggs are called ootheca. Cockroach eggs usually measure 6-9 millimeters long. The color of cockroach eggs is usually light brown to dark brown.

16–50 cockroach eggs are in one egg capsule. After 24–38 days, the eggs will hatch, and the cockroach nymph will be born. The nymph then turns into an adult cockroach.

How to Eradicate Cockroach Eggs

The mother cockroach likes to hide its eggs in cracks and small holes. In addition, cockroach egg capsules are very small in size, making them difficult to recognize. Therefore, cockroach eggs are very difficult to eradicate. The reason is, cockroaches can bring the disease to your home if it is not immediately eradicated.

The World Health Organization says that cockroaches can spread diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery, cholera, typhus, allergic reactions, and serious respiratory problems.

So, you should keep the house clean and practice clean and healthy living behavior so that you do not have to deal with cockroaches or their eggs.

Eradicating cockroach eggs can be done in several ways, which are as follows:

1. Clean the damp place in the house.

Cockroaches love warm, humid places close to food and water. This is why cockroaches tend to be in the kitchen and bathroom. They also like to lay eggs in such places. This way indirectly eliminates cockroach eggs because it stops cockroaches from breeding.

Cleaning places where cockroaches may live, such as dishwashers, food storage bins, upper and lower cabinets, kitchen and bathroom floors, drains in the bathroom, water pipe storage bins, water heater storage boxes, basements, and room laundry bins.

2. Using pesticides

Stopping adult cockroaches from laying eggs is another way to eradicate cockroach eggs. You can try to use pesticides that stop the production of chitin. This will stop the female cockroach from making chitin.

Chitin is the main ingredient that gives insects and cockroach egg capsules a hard shell. If the production is disturbed, the mother cockroach will make eggs that do not have a shell to protect it. This makes it impossible for automatic cockroach eggs to live.

3. If you find a cockroach egg, discard it immediately

If the mother cockroach has already laid eggs, it is time to kill the existing eggs. Look at the places where cockroaches like to hide.

If you find cockroach eggs, you can get rid of them by doing the following:

• Crushing them with shoes or other objects Do not forget to clean the remaining flakes of cockroach eggs.
• Burn cockroach eggs. Make sure you do it outdoors.
• Pouring boric acid on cockroach eggs
• Pesticide spraying.
• Using a vacuum cleaner to remove it. This method can get rid of cockroach eggs but not kill them. So, after using the vacuum cleaner, empty the pockets.

4. Using chemicals to stop the growth of insects

IGR is a kind of insecticide that does not kill insects but prevents them from reproducing. So cockroaches can no longer lay eggs.

IGR can be poured directly on cockroach eggs or placed in places in the house that tend to be places where cockroaches gather. If the IGR gets into the eggs, they will not be able to hatch, and the cockroaches that eat them will die.

It is not easy to get rid of cockroach eggs. There are times when insecticides alone are not enough to kill hidden cockroach eggs.
